On Friday, friends of Altoona resident Kathy Myers are having an American Red Cross blood drive in her memory after she passed away on May 19.
The blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at the Greenwood United Methodist Church on East Walton Avenue.
Myers taught music in the Altoona Area School District elementary schools. She later became an ordained Presbyterian minister and most recently served as the organist and choir director at Bethany Lutheran Church and Ward Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Myers delivered food to the elderly for the Blair Senior Services Meals on Wheels Program and also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, the Mountain Lion Backpack Program and other local organizations.
She received several blood transfusions while being treated for a rare form of cancer.
Donation appointments are encouraged and available at redcrossblood.org.
