Amandus E. Gallagher, 84, Altoona, died Wednesday night at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg after a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Francis and Alice (Ansman) Gallagher. He married Stella Skupien on Nov. 27, 1950, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Altoona, and she died Dec. 30, 1998.
Surviving are three daughters: Patricia L. Koch, Diane M. Moschella and Karen Brady, all of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Chris Koch, Brian (Hilary) Koch, Kimberly (Shawn) Steward, Eric Koch, Nicole (Paul) Querry, J. Mark (Kristin) Moschella, Scott (Stacey) Brady, Patrick (Amy) Brady and Matthew Brady and girlfriend, Amanda Madden; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jayden; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Amandus attended Altoona Catholic High School. He retired in 1991 from Lumax Industries of Altoona with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, and he enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and hunting.
At the family's request, there will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Monsignor Robert C. Mazur officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
