Mo Valley to mark 50th anniversary
HOUTZDALE - This year marks the 50thyear of operation of the Moshannon Valley Junior-Senior High School.
The Houtzdale/Woodward/Brisbin, Bigler Township and Moshannon Joint (Madera) high schools were the foundation of ther current school district.
In 1955, a jointure was formed between these local schools called the Moshannon Valley Area School District. The current building was constructed at its current location in Amesville in 1963.
To acknowledge this milestone, the Moshannon Valley Board of Directors and the Alumni Association would like to invite the public to an open house at 2 p.m. Sunday May 25.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. with keynote speaker Rep. Tommy Sankey. Additional guest speakers include longtime MVSD school board president and local historian Larry Kokoskie and longtime MVHS history teacher and local historian Dave Wulderk.
Tours of the school will be available, and there will be items on display to commemorate classes.
Each class will be provided an area to display yearbooks, scrapbooks, pictures and any other memorabilia. If you have any items (pictures, yearbooks, team photos, band/athletic uniforms, etc.) that you would like to lend for display purposes, contact the school. The committee is looking for items that pre-date the consolidation of the Moshannon Valley School District in addition to any MVHS memorabilia items.
This event is open to all graduates from Moshannon Valley, not just graduates from the building.
The School Board and the Alumni Association hope kick-off a membership interest to promote future events. Alumni, current students, past and present facility and former school board directors are invited to attend, and light refreshments will be provided in the cafeteria.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Rob Reed at 378-7422 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
