Hospital seeks old photos, clippings
TYRONE - Tyrone Hospital will celebrate its 60th anniversary in September. The hospital is seeking old photos, news clippings or other documents that help tell the story of the hospital's 60-year history.
Select items will be used during the hospital's 60thAnniversary celebration.
Jim Carothers, president of the Kiwanis Club of Altoona, presents Sandi Smith of Home Run Against Drugs with a check for $500. The money will be used to support Home Run Against Drugs book program, in which area second-graders are taught the dangers of drugs and alcohol and then presented with a personalized book to take home.
Any items that community members have and would be willing to share are most welcome. Items will be scanned into a computer and returned in tact to their original owner.
Members of the community who wish to submit items may do so by June 1. Any items submitted should each be marked clearly with the owner's full name, mailing address, phone number and email address. Items submitted should be secured in an envelope and addressed to Theresa Yanchetz, director of marketing, Tyrone Hospital, 187 Hospital Drive, Tyrone, PA 16686.
Items may be mailed to the hospital or dropped off at the hospital's main registration desk.

CMN?yard sale raises $28,000
CLEARFIELD - The Children's Miracle Network at Geisinger yard sale was held May 9 and 10 and raised $28,000.
Five tractor-trailer loads of items that were donated by the Walmart Distribution Center No. 6024 in Woodland, were sold both days at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds Expo Buildings 1 and 2.
The Clearfield County Fair Board and Clearfield County Queens for a Cause Program provided volunteer help and generous support for the event.
The funds raised by this event will help to provide pediatric equipment, programs and services at Janet Weis Children's Hospital and throughout Geisinger Health System.
Funds provide wigs for cancer patients
The American Cancer Society, in partnership with, Amazing You in Altoona has free, brand-new wigs and head coverings available to those with cancer, regardless of income.
Funds raised at the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Blair event, helped make these wigs and head coverings free to local cancer patients.
The free wig program has human hair wigs with modern styles and highlights, synthetic wigs and head coverings, such as cotton scarves.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Greater Blair event is scheduled for Oct. 4.
Country dance set for June 14
PLEASANTVILLE - A dance to music by Country Traditions will be held from 7 to 10:30 p.m. June 14 at the Alum?Bank Firehall on Route 96 just north of Route 56.
Admission is $5 per person. The kitchen will open at 5:30 p.m. The event is smoke-free and alcohol-free.

Gardeners plan 'Christmas in July'
EBENSBURG -? The Penn State Master Gardeners will sponsor "Christmas in July," a holiday tea, from 1 to 3 p.m. July 19 in the Cambria County?Cooperative Extension Office meeting room at 499 Manor Drive.
The cost for the event is $14.95.
The public is invited to join the master gardeners for an afternoon of food and fun and be inspired to host their own holiday tea this Christmas season.
Many unique and inexpensive ideas will be presented.
Participants can relax with a cup of tea while sampling a variety of scones, savories and sweet treats and take home a copy of all of the recipes.
They also can learn the history and etiquette of the afternoon tea as it has been celebrated for centuries and enjoy demonstrations on making wreaths, topiaries, kissing balls and tabletop fountains using natural material found in the backyard, garden or woodlot.
