Samuel D. Helsel, 79, Roaring Spring, went home to be with the Lord Monday at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Samuel Levi and Kathryn (Albright) Helsel.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eva M. (Stern), whom he dearly loved; three daughters: Loretta M. Tremmel and husband, Philip, Lisa F. Tremmel and husband, Rodney, and Leslie R. Fletcher and husband, Raymond, all of Roaring Spring; eight grandchildren: Stacy Beltz and husband, John, Bethany Meier and husband, Phil, Brandon Tremmel and wife, Angela, Liane Tremmel, Rodney Lee Tremmel II, Ryan Tremmel and wife, Becca, Quinten Fletcher and Ariana Bittner and husband, Jack; and 11 great-grandchildren: Corissa Beltz, Josh Beltz, Jane Meier, Emma Meier, Ira Meier, Samuel Meier, Olivia Tremmel, Colby Tremmel, Vanessa Tremmel, Ben Tremmel and Abby Tremmel.
Samuel retired from Veeder-Root Co. after 30 years of service and attended Puzzletown Road Bible Church. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were the light of his life. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, and he was a member of the Cove Country Flyers.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Puzzletown Road Bible Church, Pastor Jon Gross officiating. Interment will be made in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Home Nursing Agency Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
