William B. Thompson, 46, Claysburg, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Donald and Linda (Musselman) Thompson. He married Tammy L. Detwiler July 11, 1987, in Claysburg.
Surviving are his wife; a sister, Cheri L. Ickes and husband, Ronald Jr.; a grandmother, Rose Summy; a niece, Nichole Claar; a nephew, Drew Claar; two great-nieces; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Bill was a 1985 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School and a 1987 graduate of Rosedale Technical Institute, Pittsburgh. He was employed as a mechanical supervisor at Norfolk Southern with 21 years of service and was also on the Emissions Compliance Team. He developed and designed a split cooling system on which he currently holds a U.S. patent in conjunction with Norfolk Southern.
Bill was a member of Harvest Abundant Life Center, Claysburg. He was a life member of Smokey Run Rod and Gun Club and was a hunter education instructor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garage.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2014, at Harvest Abundant Life Center, 12756 Dunnings Highway, Carpet Depot Plaza, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the church, with Pastors Ronald Page and Donald Faulkner officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
