Catherine A. "Katie" Mowry, 92, Altoona, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
She was born in Frankstown, daughter of Dominic and Angeline (Snowberger) Sassano. She married Clair Mowry on Sept. 17, 1968, in Bellwood, and he died Feb. 22, 1981.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law: Yolanda and Trina Sassano; three nephews: Anthony Sassano and wife, Karen, Michael Sassano and wife, Dianne, and Carl Sassano and wife, Beth; five great-nephews: Tony and wife, Kerri, Chris, Michael and wife, Michelle, Brian and wife, Brie, and Ryen; a great-great-niece, Mia; and four great-great-nephews: Brady, Nicholas, Michael and Brian.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Russell, Joseph, Nicholas and Louie; and a sister, Mary.
Katie worked for Warnaco in Altoona, retiring after 32 years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved her many nephews and nieces very much and enjoyed taking walks, reading and going to yard sales.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Anthony P. Scaglione Funeral Home, 1908 Seventh Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Monsignor Stanley Carson. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
