Library features young adult artist
The Altoona Area Public Library welcomes Casey Lee Young as the young adult artist for May.
Casey is a junior at Glendale Junior/Senior High School and a commercial art student at the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center.

"My teacher, Mrs. Lowther has taught me many things that have helped me with growing my artistic talent," she said. "Many children are inspired by their parents - my parents are inspired by me. Not really, but that would be cool."
"I hope to have a successful career, no matter what it ends up being. I would like to be an elementary school teacher. I want to continue growing as an artist."
Casey's artwork may be viewed on the first floor during regular library hours through May 31.
A&J Iaia Post to place flags on graves
The A&J Iaia American Legion Post 827 will put flags on the veterans' graves at 10 a.m. Saturday.
All members and Boy Scouts are urged to attend.
May 26 is Memorial Day, and the post and auxiliary will participate in the Altoona parade. Members should be at the parade, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Miniature golf part of Miracle Weekend
A Miracle Miniature Golf Tournament will be held in conjunction with Children's Miracle Network's Celebration Weekend at the Championship Miniature Golf Course at DelGrosso's Amusement Park, Tipton, at 1 p.m. May 31.
The cost is $7 per person or $25 per team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams of each flight.

Beginning runners group forming
EBENSBURG - The Ebensburg Area Running Club is forming a training group to prepare beginning runners to complete a 5K (3.1 mile) race.
The group will meet at 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays from May 28 to July 23 at the Central Cambria High School track.
Brand-new runners, recreational joggers (people who can complete 1 to 2 miles) and people looking to get back into shape are encouraged to join.
There will be a $20 fee, payable in cash or check at the first training session. The fee covers training sessions, an EARC shirt and entry fee for the Ebensburg Homecoming 5K on July 26. Participants should wear running shoes and comfortable running attire and bring a water bottle. Runners under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants are responsible for their own safety.
The Ebensburg Area Running Club is a club for runners and walkers of all abilities in the Ebensburg area.
Signups for workshop due Thursday
Rich Melheim, the founder and creative force behind Faith Inkubators, will present a community workshop, "Holding our Families Together," from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 7 at the Blair County Convention Center, Altoona.
This workshop will help families, and those who work with them, to "dream the dream" and work a plan for growing closer to God and each other.
The cost is $15 per person or $25 per family. Child-care is available for children age 3 and younger.

Conference focuses on faith nursing
LORETTO -?St. Francis University's Nursing Department will present "Foundations of Faith Community Nursing" from June 8 to 10 and June 29 to July 1 at the DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness on campus. Registration will be accepted through Friday.
The conference will educate professionals and students on ways to combine health practice with spiritual growth to promote overall well-being in patients.
The conference will focus on core concepts of spiritual formation, professionalism and health and wholeness. Participants will also learn more about leadership roles in collaborative health ministries, as well as how to sustain a faith community nursing practice.
The cost of the conference is $350, which includes some meals, all conference materials and continuing education credits.
