BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Alen Hanson has always been thought of as an offensive shortstop who needs work on his defense, and that has turned out to be the case so far this season with the Curve.
Hanson leads the Eastern League with 12 errors, and his 12th one was costly Wednesday night as it helped Binghamton pull ahead during a big fifth inning. The B-Mets scored three runs in the inning to rally for a 5-3 win over the Curve at NYSEG Stadium.
Altoona built a 2-0 lead before Binghamton cut it in half in the fourth. The B-Mets tied it in the fifth against Curve starter Joely Rodriguez, then Hanson's error allowed them to take the lead for good.
The two-out error let Wilfredo Tovar score for a 3-2 Binghamton lead, and the home team added another unearned run on Matt Clark's RBI double.
The Curve got a run back thanks to an error in the sixth inning, but Binghamton closed the scoring in the seventh for a 5-3 edge.
