Glenn W. Aungst Sr., 90, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Lakemont, passed away Sunday evening of a heart attack at his home.
He was born in Lakemont, son of Roland and Olive (Vipond) Aungst. He married Anna Jean Weaver on Aug. 21, 1943, in Lakemont, and she died April 8, 2004.
Surviving are a son, Ronald R. (Debbie) of Altoona; three grandchildren: Kimberly, Timothy (Tammy) and Jeannette; three great-grandchildren: Anna Rose, Brandon and Alyssa; and a brother-in-law, Dick Carnicella.
He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Jr.; an infant grandson, Richard R. "Richie"; two brothers: Blair and Charles "Sonny"; and two sisters: Mary Hartman and Janet Carnicella.
Glenn was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad (Penn Central) in 1968 with 25 years of service as a switchman, and then he worked as a corrections officer at the Blair County Prison, retiring with 27 years of service as a sergeant.
Glenn was an avid deer hunter up to his early 80s. He enjoyed working in his yard and was very proud of his tomato plants.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 13, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, by Monsignor Michael Becker. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
