Doris J. Peterson, 84, Hollidaysburg, died Friday evening at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Duncansville, daughter of the late Irvin C. and Margaret P. (Claar) Piper.
She is survived by four children: Walter Barnes of Hollidaysburg, Dale Barnes (Marcella) of Duncansville, Tina McCoy-Wright (David) of Hollidaysburg and Tracy Wyatt (Don) of Duncansville; three grandchildren: Erin West (Fred) of Maple Shade, N.J., Rachel Wyatt of Pittsburgh and Ryan Peterson of Hollidaysburg; and a sister, Donna Shultz (Dick) of Hollidaysburg.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Lucas McCoy; three brothers: Gerald Butler, Irvin Piper, J. Calvin Piper and Donald Piper; and two sisters: Janet Bowser and Margaret Hoefler.
Doris attended Hollidaysburg High School.
She had worked for Acme Markets in Hollidaysburg for more than 30 years and at Publix Supermarkets in Florida for 12 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.
She was a past bowler, a lover of all animals and enjoyed music, attending many events with her sister. She was an avid reader and a fan of Elvis Presley. She was known for her whit and personality.
The key to her longevity can be attributed to her "Royal Secret."
Friends will be received from 1:30 until the 3 p.m. memorial service on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Derr. Interment will be at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
