Charles W. Good Sr., 74, Duncansville, died Thursday at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Wallace and Adela Rose (Galant) Good. He married Ruth A. (Hand) on Sept. 24, 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Good of Duncansville; two sons: Charles W. Good Jr. of Duncansville and Paul W. Good and wife, Vicki, of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Deanna, Brittany, Brandon, Cassandra and Mackenzie Good; three brothers: James Good, Robert Good and wife, Vicki, and Bernard Good and wife Cathy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Misty.
Charles was of the Catholic faith.
He had worked as a corrections officer, retiring from SCI Huntingdon in 2002.
Charles graduated from Altoona Area High School, Class of 1957.
He had served in the United States Navy, U.S.S. Intrepid, from Jan. 16, 1958, to Dec. 27, 1961. He received the Good Conduct Medal.
Charles was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, attending Super Bowl XL and XLIII victories with his son, Paul. He enjoyed hunting with his son, Chuck, going on numerous large game hunts across the country; but most important to him was his loving family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a lifetime member of Bavarian Aid Society, American Legion, and was a committee member of Boy Scouts of America.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery with graveside services and military honors.
