From Mirror reports

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg native Anthony DeGol posted the low score at Wednesday's U.S. Open Local Qualifying Tournament at Scotch Valley. In doing so, DeGol clinched one of three spots allowing him to move on to the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying, scheduled for early June.

DeGol started with a solid front nine score of 1-under par. He followed that with seven straight pars as he arrived at the 17thhole.

"I knew that 2-under would probably be the score I needed at that point," DeGol said, before hitting his tee shot to 20 feet. He proceeded to hole that putt and finished with a routine par giving him the low round of the day - 2 under par 69.

DeGol, who turned professional last summer, will now head back to his current home in Saint Simons Island, Georgia and will be competing in several mini-tour events over the next month. His upcoming Sectional Qualifying event is scheduled for June 2 at Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. - one of 10 sites across the country where qualifiers will be competing for 78 spots available for this year's U.S. Open at the historic Pine Hurst No. 2 course in North Carolina.

DeGol, who has competed in two U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships, was excited to make it to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying for the first time.

"It's a thrill, especially to qualify at my home course," DeGol said. "I'm also so thankful for my brother Dennis who caddied for me today. He really helped me and kept me focused."

The two remaining qualifying spots went to Adam Decker of Mechanicville, Va. and Santiago Mejia of Pittsburgh who each shot 1-under par scores of 70. Hollidaysburg native Sean Brannan also scored 1-under par, but failed to qualify in the subsequent playoff. He will be an alternate for sectional qualifying.
