Ruth J. Hartley, 85, Altoona, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Edwin and Edna (Truax) Bender. She married Harold C. Hartley on Dec. 3, 1949, at Simpson Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2002.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan of Altoona; two sons: Barry (Louise) of Akron, Pa., and Doug (Joni) of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren: Heather, Aaron, Lisa and Alissa; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bender; and her stepfather, Fritz Peterson.
Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School and retired from Wissinger's Bakery with 26 years of service. She was a member of Simpson-Temple United Parish. She loved her little gem, her dog Opal, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today, May 8, 2014, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at Simpson-Temple United Parish, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Denise M. Arpino officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
