Doris I. Becker, 88, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville.
She was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of Robert and Irene (Tink) Pitschke. She married Jack E. Becker on Aug. 4, 1947, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Pittsburgh, and he died Feb. 17, 2007, after having shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are three daughters: Linda O'Leary and husband, Michael, of Raphine, Va., Diane M. Hallinan and husband, Anthony, of Lewistown and Jaye Rainy and husband, Steve, of Portland, Conn.; a son, John B. and wife, Jane, of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two siblings: Rita Szolis and Robert, both of Pittsburgh.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Huehn.
Doris was a 1943 graduate of St. Rosalina High School, Pittsburgh. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where she served in the Ladies Guild. She was the founder of a pinochle club in 1963 which is still in existence today, and from 1980-90, she taught Slimnastics in Blair County. She was active with the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA in membership and fundraising.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Clement G. Gardner. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
