Helen F. Shirdon, 92, Cresson, died Tuesday at Just Like Home Personal Care, Cresson.
She was born in Lilly, daughter of the late Walter and Claire (Kois) Godish.
Surviving are two children: Mary Lou Diehl (Kenneth) of Cresson and Carl F. Jr. (Janet) of Shallotte, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Shirdon of St. Michael; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and three sisters: Doris Erzal, Florence Stevens and LeeAnn "Tootsie" Inman, all of Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Sr.; a son, James; and several brothers and sisters.
Helen had worked as a dietary supervisor at Cresson Tuberculosis Sanitarium, Cresson Center and Altoona Center, retiring after 20 years of service. She was a former member of the Cresson Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where Legion of Mary will recite the rosary at 3 p.m., followed by a vigil for the deceased. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Very Rev. Father John D. Byrnes officiating. Committal will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
