Patricia Louise Sonberger, 81, a resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, for the past 14 months, passed way Monday evening at the home.
She was born in Patton, daughter of Herman and Mae (Gauntner) Long. She married Charles J. Sonberger on March 26, 1952, at Fort Breckinridge, Ky., and he preceded her in death Dec. 7, 2002.
Surviving are a son, Charles C.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a special brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Donna Long; two brothers: John (Marie) and Bill (Barbara) Long; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Charlene; a brother, Herman J. Long; and a niece, Susan.
Pat served in the U.S. Army for two years as a post locator. During her husband's Army career, they lived in St. Thomas, Pa., Harrisburg, Hawaii, McKees Rocks, Kansas City, Mo., Sarver and Coraopolis. She relocated to Altoona in 2005. She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Coraopolis.
Pat enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, poetry and decorating her home.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Father Ronald Osinski officiating. Entombment will be made at Coraopolis Cemetery.
