Maple Hollow work to begin
Contractor Diehl Contracting LLC of Glen Hope will begin waterline construction work today on Maple Hollow Road between the intersection at Route 764 and Tree Lane in Allegheny Township.
Maple Hollow Road between Route 764 and Tree Lane will be closed to through traffic, the Duncansville Municipal Authority said. The Maple Hollow Road detour will be in effect until about May 9.
Southbound motorists will use Kuhn Lane and Mill Road to reach Maple Hollow Road.
Northbound raffic should use Old Route 22 and Mill Road to reach Maple Hollow Road.
Traffic on Route 764 will not be able to turn west onto Maple Hollow Road at the traffic light because of the construction.
Through traffic on Route 764 will not be affected by the Maple Hollow Road closure.
County to adopt official seal
Bedford County, which has sported its own flag for six years, is set to adopt an official seal today, Commissioner Chairman Kirt Morris said.
The seal, set to appear on letterhead and government documents, follows a design common in other counties: It consists of the Pennsyl-vania seal, with an eagle, sailing ship, plow and haystacks flanked by flora, surrounded by the county name in a dark circle. The county's founding year of 1771 appears, as well.
The county was in need of a universal symbol, with other offices long relying on a generic emblem used by the commissioners' office, Morris said.
"It was a little hokey," he said. "We didn't have anything official."
In 2008, Bedford County adopted a citizen-submitted flag based on an 18th-century British naval ensign.
