Walter Stasik Sr., 89, Coupon, died Thursday at Lancaster Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.
He was born in Coupon, son of the late John Stasik and Catherine (Koeck) Stasik Sopata.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Carol Toffy, whom he married June 20, 1944; two sons: Walter Jr. (Joan Bender) of Lancaster and John (Monica Felton) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Francis and John; and a sister, Rose Marie Ponchock. Walter was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Stasik was a WWII Army veteran where he served with the 722nd Military Police Battalion.
He worked for Bethlehem Mines, Revloc, for over 40 years and retired in 1986.
Walter enjoyed hunting, gardening, and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games.
He was a member of UMWA, Mountain Top Sportsmen, Coupon, and Ashville VFW, a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Coupon, and member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Coupon. A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family. Military rites are in charge of Ashville VFW and other local military organizations.
