Roy J. "Jim" Diviney Jr., 72, Dysart, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Roy J. Sr. and Laura Marie (Powell) Diviney. He married Patricia L. Wirt on July 4, 1975, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Randy and wife, Michele; two grandchildren: Emily and Jacob Diviney; and a sister, Ronna J. Diviney.
Jim graduated from Altoona High School in 1960 and from Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., in 1965 on a full football scholarship. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1992 after 25 years of service from the state of Pennsylvania as an assistant director of the Department of Children and Youth.
Jim was a member of the Pennsylvania Bass Federation, Ashville Bass Club and Shy Beaver Bass Club, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona. Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
