Marjorie Jane (Klahre) Taylor, 95, formerly of Hollidaysburg and Altoona, passed away Saturday in Lancaster.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Bernard and Grace (Stoke) Klahre. She married Hawn Samuel Taylor on May 20, 1945, at Simpson Methodist Church in Altoona, and Sam passed away on April 18, 1989.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ethel Taylor Boland, with whom she resided for the last seven years at The Groves Assisted Living in Ephrata; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Taylor; a sister-in-law, Lauretta Taylor Fay; two nephews: David Boland and Lynn Taylor; and two nieces: Sue Zimmerman and Chris Hackenberg.
She was preceded in death by her only son, Richard, on May 14, 2003; a sister, Virginia; and a brother, Robert.
Margie was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State University for two years. She was employed by Sears, Stellabotte and J&M Printing in Altoona as both a bookkeeper and office manager. She taught Sunday school at Simpson Methodist Church for 50 years. She and Sam enjoyed square dancing and camping, and she served in various positions, including president, for the Pennsylvania Dancing Campers and Chimney Rock Square Dance Club.
Margie was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hollidaysburg. In 1987, she joined the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA and volunteered wherever needed. She served as secretary of the board of directors of the YMCA and was thrilled to be named member emeritus of the board. She also enjoyed needlepoint, quilting and counted cross-stitch.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
