Carol A. Wess, 63, Bellefonte, formerly of Cresson, passed away Tuesday at home.
She was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Mary Louise (Harlow) Cole. She married Lawrence J. "Larry" Wess on June 10, 1978.
Surviving are her husband; two sons: Andrew R. and fiancee, Miranda, of State College and Matthew J. and wife, Stephanie, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Reese and husband, Robert, of Boalsburg; a brother, Robert C. Cole and wife, Karen, of Chester Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School and St. Francis University, Loretto. She retired after 30 years as a special education teacher for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, Central Cambria School District and Penn Cambria School District. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Bellefonte and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Carol was a volunteer for Special Olympics in Cambria County and Centre County. She especially valued being able to help special students learn as much as possible and to enrich their lives.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, April 19, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, Father George Jakopac officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
