M. Elayne Gooderham, 78, Altoona, died Monday.
She was born in Ashville, daughter of the late James and Alma (Colbert) Brannigan. She married Richard E. Gooderham on Nov. 30, 1957, in Ashville.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years; three daughters: Cathy Schimminger (Mark) of Altoona, Peggy Karnes (Bill) of Altoona and Sharon Blair (Greg) of Shillington; a son-in-law, Marty Georgiana of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Damian Schimminger, Cara (Schimminger) Schumacher (JJ), Jacob Karnes, Adam Georgiana (Amy) and Allison, Luke and Emma Blair; four great-grandchildren: Nora and Jiles Schumacher and Jesse and Nicki Georgiana; and a special niece, Kim (Brannigan) Basal (Charlie) of Ashville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Georgiana, on Aug. 18, 2013; and a brother, Thomas.
Elayne was a 1953 graduate of Cresson High School and a 1956 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a registered nurse in 1996 from Bon Secours Hospital with more than 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, reading, camping and putting her feet in the sand.
Elayne's family will be forever grateful to their matriarch, the woman who raised them and who taught them how to hold their heads high with grace and poise and how to love fully and unconditionally. She will be forever and always in their hearts.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, in Stevens Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Brian Saylor officiating. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
