Philip Joseph Baldacchino, 87, Carrolltown, died Monday.
He was born in Barnesboro.
Philip was a devoted husband and is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; five children: Dena, Lucille, Joseph, Dorothy and Margie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Philip graduated from Barnesboro High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He later earned bachelor's degrees in chemistry and education, master's degrees in science and education, and a Ph.D. in chemistry. His life was dedicated to education by serving in the past as a teacher for numerous years and as the curriculum coordinator of education at Cambria Heights School District, and he retired as the superintendent of Northern Cambria School District in 1986.
Philip was a devoted Catholic and an active member of St. Benedict's Church, and he achieved fourth-degree status in the Knights of Columbus 34 years ago. He loved to travel with his wife and family throughout the world and was fluent in Italian. His favorite pastime was to spend time with his family.
Because of both his passion for and role modeling of higher education, he ensured that all of his children and adult grandchildren attained college degrees.
Friends will be received from 9 until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Paul Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, Pa. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church Cemetery, Ebensburg.
