Mary Jo (Martynuska) Butch, 59, Lilly, went home Wednesday, April 9, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones.
Surviving are her loving husband, Donald; three children: Jude and wife, Kelly, of Buffalo, N.Y., Victoria Butch (Zack Smith) of Bellefonte and Katelyn Butch (Kyle Gifford) of New York, N.Y.; two adoring and faithful sisters: Helen (Martynuska) Glynn and husband, Curtis, of Millers, N.C., and Consiglia Martynuska of Lilly; and two sisters-in-law: Elaine Plewa and husband, Joseph, of Harrisburg and Catherine Sprouse and husband, Lawrence, of Altoona; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and students. She was the proud nana of Lily Ray Butch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Phyllis (Albarano) Martynuska; her parents-in-law, Curtis and Mary (McCloskey) Butch; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mary Jo loved life, her friends and family, sports, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, reading, bowling, her community, Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, her dogs, crossword puzzles and her sister Consiglia's sauce. She was an incredible sister, loving wife, proud mother, nana and aunt, loyal friend and dedicated educator. She spent 33 years touching the lives of thousands of young people at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Ebensburg, where she could be found playing pickle ball or basketball in the gym. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Thomas F. Cloherty Funeral Home, Lilly, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Sunday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, 608 Main St., Lilly, concelebrated by Father David Bonnarigo, T.O.R., Father Brian Warchola and Deacon Sam Albarano. Committal will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.
