Donald R. Schoening, 85, Claysburg, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday morning at his residence.
He was born in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Lester Eugene and Vada Irene (Earhard) Schoening.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Ida K. Dicken of Claysburg, with whom he resided; a daughter, Susan White and husband, Ronald, of Jacksonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Ray M. Roudabush of Claysburg; a daughter-in-law, Melody Fleck of Hollidaysburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Roudabush; two sons: Ronald Maretich and Paul John Maretich; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Don was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Pal-Mino's Pizza, Juniata, and he was a member of Claysburg Bible Church. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, and he loved going to church.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today, March 27, 2014, at Claysburg Bible Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, by Pastor Keith Showalter. Military honors will be provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be made in Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald's memory may be given to Claysburg Bible Church.
