BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates have agreed to a six-year contract extension with outfielder Starling Marte worth $31 million, according to multiple media outlets.
The deal locks up one of the most promising young hitters in the National League at a fairly favorable rate for the Pirates.
Marte hit .280 with 12 homers and 35 RBIs for the Pirates last season, plus he had 41 steals.
Marte won the Eastern League batting title for the Curve in 2011.
The Mirror will have more on the Marte deal in Thursday's edition.
