Theresa M. (Furgione) Verbonitz, 77, Altoona, passed away March 19, 2014, at home.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Domenico and Domenica (Suriano) Furgione. She married John J. Verbonitz, and he died Sept. 17, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia (Kris) Davinsizer of Dysart; a son, Dennis of Altoona; a grandson, Kyle; a sister, Yolanda (Vince) Bumann of Altoona; and two brothers: Victor (Dorothy) Furgione of Duncansville and Eugene Furgione of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Anne Smith, Amelia Sinisi and Louise Cook; and a brother, Torino Furgione.
Theresa was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a high school cook for the Altoona Area School District and had also worked at Sylvania. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and volunteered at UPMC Altoona, and she also belonged to the Cesare Battisti Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the A&J Iaia American Legion Post, and a card club.
Theresa enjoyed sewing, bowling and playing Bunco.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
