James Carl Cessna, 89, Altoona, died Thursday night at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Gypsy, son of the late Lloyd and Alta Mae (Bennett) Cessna. He married Frances E. Leonard on Aug. 4, 1951, and she preceded him in death July 1, 2007.
Surviving are two daughters: Nancy B. Williams of Altoona and Connie C. Beckel of Greensburg; a son, Lewis C. of Altoona; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mona Kennedy and Minta Dunkel.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Howard; and his twin brother, Lewis Clair.
James had been self-employed for nearly 53 years as owner and operator of Cessna Barber Shop in Eldorado since 1959. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and also belonged to the Cesare Battisti Club and Park Hills Country Club. He was an avid golfer and hunter and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5514 Roselawn Ave., Altoona, Father Carl Spishak officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
