Francis X. Bones, 81, Hollidaysburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, March 21, 2014, peacefully with his children by his side.
He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Muesil) and Lorraine (Fortuna) Bones; loving father of Donald (Robin) DiVincenzo of Claysburg, Timothy (Dawn) Bones of Williamsburg, Jennifer (Neil) Simpson of New Haven, Conn., Steven (Pamela) Bones of Pittsburgh and Kathleen (Aaron) Moyer of Hollidaysburg; and devoted grandfather of 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Betty Cooke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Bones; and five brothers: Thomas, Eugene, Lawrence, Jack and James.
Francis was a 1950 graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed at Boeing Helicopter for more 38 years.
Francis "Gizmo" was a 14-year-old boy at heart trapped in the body of an 81-year-old man. He loved people and people-watching and took great pleasure in engaging strangers in conversation. He had a dry, witty and often warped sense of humor. He was a history buff. He was always late, always happy, always telling jokes and stories, and always the life of the party. He loved his piping-hot coffee, his Irish heritage and, above all, his family and friends.
Francis will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He touched many people, and the world was a better place with him in it.
Family and friends are welcome to celebrate his life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Interment will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Queen, with military honors directed by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
