William Allen Lytle Sr., 95, Paulsboro, N.J., died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Shady Lane Nursing Home, Clarksboro, N.J.
He was born and raised in Lilly, son of Fred and Josephine (Roberts) Lytle.
Surviving are seven children: James of Fennville, Mich., Mary Oksten of Paulsboro, N.J., William Jr. of Spring Hill, Fla., Elizabeth Reimer of Marlton, N.J., Michael of Gibbstown, N.J., Thomas of Paulsboro and Anne Daly of Mantua, N.J. He will be lovingly remembered by his 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as "Pop."
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 75 years, Mary (Leahey) Lytle. He and Mary moved to Philadelphia in 1942. In 1953, they settled in Paulsboro, N.J., where they resided for more than 60 years and raised a family.
William worked for Mobil Oil in Paulsboro as a truck driver, dispatcher, foreman and fleet instructor. After retiring in 1981, he worked for the First National Bank of Gloucester County as a "runner." He was an active member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church and served in the Holy Name Society. Prior to his death, he was the oldest surviving member of the Paulsboro Sportsmen's Association.
William and Mary frequently traveled to Florida and once drove across the country. He also enjoyed building, repairing and performing odd jobs around his house and the houses of his children.
Friends will be received from 9 until the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass Friday, March 21, 2014, at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. John's Church, 647 Beacon Ave., Paulsboro, N.J.
