Raymond Joseph Glass, also known as Joseph Raymond, 90, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday evening at his home.
He was born in East Freedom, son of the late William and Emma (Smith) Glass. He married Margaret Dolores Smithmyer on May 7, 1946, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage; three daughters: Mary Margaret McManus and husband, William, and Mary Ann Silvis and husband, Rich, all of Altoona, and Susan Marie Steinbauer of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren and one not yet born.
He was the last of nine siblings.
Raymond served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a self-employed contractor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called him "Wow Pappy," and he also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and fishing.
Visitation will be private for the family. A public funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski with full military honors to follow. Committal will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial Masses will be appreciated, or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit.
