A check of a city home by state parole and probation agents led to the seizure of $40,000 worth of heroin, according to police.
Leann Gray, 25, of 2718 W. Chestnut Ave., second floor, was taken into custody Monday by Altoona police after 1,540 bags of heroin were found during a visit by Gray's parole agent, police said.
Police noted state parole and probation agents can conduct a limited search at a home of someone under their supervision and after finding the 30 bricks of heroin the agents turned the scene over to Altoona police.
After the home was secured, an police obtained a search warrant, the heroin and $2,969 in cash was recovered. Police said ammunition for a handgun was located at the apartment but no weapon was found.
Gray, who was sentenced to a four- to nine-year state prison stint after a drug conviction in August 2009, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Todd Kelly on felony and misdemeanor drug charges before being lodged in Blair County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
Gray is due to appear at Central Court for a preliminary hearing on March 19.
