Edward William Benton, 71, Canoe Creek, passed away Thursday morning at UPMC Passavant, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Beaverdale, son of the late James S. and Verma (Corle) Benton.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda (Weir), with whom he shared 37 happy years; a daughter, Robin of Altoona; a stepson, Richard J. Showalter Jr. of Bel Air, Md.; a stepdaughter, Terrina (Tom) McIntosh of Geeseytown; two grandchildren: Miranda Martz and Robert Shoemaker; five step-grandchildren: Seth and Alex Showalter, Linzie Morris, Justin Everhart and Mikayla McIntosh; a great-grandchild; two brothers: Ron and Carl, both of Altoona; and a sister, Delores Franklin of Indianapolis, Ind.
Ed was a truck driver for Beavertown Block in McKee and formerly drove for E. DeVecchis & Sons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was a big fan of NASCAR.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, March 10, 2014, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, Pastor John D. Leatherman officiating. Committal will take place at New Canoe Creek Cemetery.
