HOLLIDAYSBURG - The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its March events. Winter hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
n Storytimes will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 10:30 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
n Stay & Play Preschool will visit the library at 10:30 a.m. each Thursday for a storytime. All are welcome to participate.
Construction continues at the site of the new Hollidaysburg Area Public Library building.
n Girl Scouts of Western PA membership and community development manager Michele Bridges invites girls in kindergarten through first grade to join a new Library Girl Scout Troop. n "Cupcakes with Candi!" will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Candi, a bichon frise, has been a library program volunteer for the past three years, and it's her birthday. Learn more about the joys and responsibilities of pet ownership from Jill Reigh, director of outreach and marketing at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. n Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Amber Smith, Royal International Miss National Role Model 2013-14. There will be stories, rhymes, crafts, hats and laughs.
n "Mystery and Mayhem" Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. March 11 to discuss "Fall from Grace" by Richard North Patterson. No signup is needed. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the library.
n "Beginning Calligraphy" is a three-week program held from 4 to 5 p.m. March 12, 19 and 26. Learn an italic alphabet, numbers and punctuation and how to space words on a page. n Financial Literacy "Piggy Bank Tales" storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 14, 21 and 28. Children can begin to learn important preliteracy and financial literacy skills in this specialized storytime. Learn about spending, earning, saving and sharing and make a piggy bank craft. n March is National Craft Month. At 6 p.m. March 18, learn to make Sugar Mice with Miss Melanie. This simple, edible craft is inspired by the Harry Potter Cookbook. Learn how to make a simple icing that will hold graham crackers and other sugary items in a house or other structure of your design. n Best of Times Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. March 27. This month's selection is "Winter's Tale" by Mark Halprin. No signup is needed. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the library.
n Homeschool Science Fair will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. March 28. Students are invited to prepare a two- to three-minute presentation on a favorite scientific person, event, concept or invention.
