Frederick R. Briggs, 69, Altoona, died Sunday morning at Van Zandt VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of William R. and Winifred (Fink) Briggs. He married Cynthia DeWitt on June 1, 1996.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Michele Briggs and Shila Moore (Jason); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two special friends: Don and Ted Wills; and his loyal best friend, his dog, Dusty.
Fred was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1963-69. He retired as a Logan Township police officer and also as a truck driver from Air Ground Xpress, and he had also worked for Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
Fred enjoyed hunting and was a member of various area clubs and organizations.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, Chaplin Lewis Button officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
