Daniel A. Mainello, 81, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of Phillip and Donata (Soriano) Mainelli.
Surviving are three daughters: Kathryn Harris of Gainesville, Fla., Christine Wilson of Deerfield, Fla., and Lisa Mainello of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a son, Daniel A. (Mary) of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Daniel, Michael, Nicholas, Samuel, Joey, Lee, Max, Chris and Chad Albright; a sister, Carmen Mainello in Virginia; three brothers: Phillip (Bernadine) of Altoona, Alfred "Pinky" of Hollidaysburg and Dr. Joseph (Linda) of Port Orange, Fla.; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by extended family, Tom and Tania Deitz of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Cure and Lucy Lamassaro; three brothers: John, James and Patsy; a special niece, Debbie; and a special companion, Patricia Drass.
Dan was a graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class during the Korean War. He was the owner of the Altoona Hotel Restaurant from 1967-94. He also was a conductor for Penn Central Railroad for 13 years.
Dan was a member of the Buccinese Society, where he enjoyed playing bocce, Bavarian Aid Society and Swiss Rifle Club.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
