Lela M. Rubine, 82, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Helen M. Hollingshead. She married the late Daniel T. Rubine on Dec. 29, 1949. He died on Oct. 22, 1995.
She is survived by three children: Michael R. Rubine (Janis), Gina M. Riley, both of Altoona, and Christine R. Hershberger (Loren) of Hollidaysburg; two sisters: Betty Lou Stambaugh of Altoona and Fay Ann Pierre in Oregon; seven grandchildren: Christopher Rubine (Kristi), Sara Rubine (Paul), Marc Riley, Tommy Rubine (Tess), Miriah Hershberger, Jason Steinbugl and Jessica Steinbugl (Scott); eight great-grandchildren: Stevie, Gemma, Mia, Madison, Morgan, Aidan, Evan and Dylan.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Thomas and Steven.
She retired from Hills Department Store as a retail clerk and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Lela enjoyed Sunday pasta dinners with her family. She had a never ending energy for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She also enjoyed going to the Hollidaysburg YMCA for the aquatic exercise class with her fellow swim friends, attending movies and trips to the casinos.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
