Carolyn Ruth Gartland, 69, Martinsburg, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at her home.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late J. Max and Adelaide R. (Kephart) Kahley. She married H. Gary Gartland on Aug. 22, 1970, in Roaring Spring. He passed away on Jan. 10, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine R. Hicks (husband, Ray) of Harrisburg; two sons: Neil E. (fiancee, Christi Shover) of Altoona and Mark K. (wife, Jodi) of Martinsburg; two grandsons: Owen and Alex; two step- grandsons: Kyle and Casey; and a brother, Thomas F. (wife, Barbara) of Roaring Spring.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Teddy, in 1937.
Carolyn was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, and a graduate of Altoona School of Commerce. She was owner of Studio 310, Martinsburg, for 30 years, where she offered custom picture framing. Her paintings and drawings still adorn many homes throughout the area.
Carolyn was a lifelong, active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring. She was a founding member of Martinsburg Revitalization Committee and a member of her beloved card club for more than 40 years.
Carolyn enjoyed flower gardening, drawing and painting, sewing, interior design, entertaining and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, with Pastor Kevin K. Locker officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, Martinsburg Revitalization Committee or Trinity United Methodist Church.
