James S. Fisher, Ph.D., 88, Altoona, died Tuesday at home.
He was born in Uniontown, son of the late Charles E. and Nettie J. (Gardner) Fisher.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews and special friends: George (Bernice) Shumac of Ashville, the Rev. Richard (Marjorie) Creamer of Mechanicsburg and Ronald (Debbie) Creamer and Gary (Sandy) Creamer, both of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
Dr. Fisher received his B.A. from Lincoln University, Philadelphia, where he belonged to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He then received his master's and doctoral degrees from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. He served as a professor of biology at Penn State Altoona from 1968-91. He enjoyed raising Great Danes.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, the Rev. Richard Creamer officiating. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
