Russ Hoover, 63, Erie, formerly of Loretto, passed away peacefully Friday at his residence.
He was born in Loretto, son of the late John and Rita (Farabaugh) Hoover.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Cheree (Fritch); three sons: Little Russ (Danielle) of Mechanicsburg and Jeremy and Daniel, both of Erie; three grandchildren: Tyler, Sara and Alyssa Hoover; five brothers: Bill (Jane), Bob, Jake, Ron (Mary) and Ken (Margo); six sisters: Becky Osmolinski (Ron), Joann Edwards (Denny), Alma Grossman (Jerry), Terry Dean (David), Jeannie Phister (Tim) and Lois Stoltz (Tim); in-laws: Joanne and Ralph Hellmann and Fred Fritch; four sisters-in-law: Cyndee Wells, Carmel Loucks, Carla Fritch and Loren Rimmel (Bill); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Myrna Hoover and Carol Young; and a brother, Eddie.
Russ served his country from 1969-71, spending a tour in Vietnam. He was the owner of Russ Hoover Construction and built homes in the Erie area for more than 40 years. Known for his exceptional sense of humor, his greatest pleasure was time spent with his beloved family and innumerable friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the Basilica of St Michael the Archangel, Loretto.
