Michelle Rae Heiss, 11, Mount Carmel, Tenn., formerly of Duncansville, died Wednesday at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., due to complications from leukemia.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Matthew and Nicole (Ross) Heiss.
Surviving are her parents; a sister, Maria at home; her grandparents: Paul and Wilda Heiss of Duncansville, David Ross Jr. of Tyrone and Darlene Nixon of Roaring Spring; and aunts and uncles: Donald Heiss of Benton, La., David Heiss of Duncansville, April Breitenbach of Martinsburg, W.Va., David Ross III of Tyrone, Penny Miller of Tyrone, Tracy Swartzendruber of Tyrone and Melissa Bowman of Altoona.
Michelle was in the sixth grade class at Church Hill Intermediate School in Church Hill, Tenn. She enjoyed listening to music, playing the flute and piano, animals, especially her "puppy," Cheyenne, the Weather Channel and the color purple. Her favorite musical bands were One Direction, The Beatles, Adele and Taylor Swift.
Michelle had a special way of making friends feel included and loved. Her family will forever miss her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, loving hugs and warm heart.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Duncansville. Interment will be at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
