Joseph M. Fanella, 77, Altoona, passed away Friday at home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Giuseppe and Elizabeth (Perno) Fanella. He married Shirley Katsetos at St. Mark's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Michael and wife, Nancy, of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Michael Jr., Megan and Katie; and three siblings: Mary Sardella, Anthony and Daniel, all of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Grassi and Josephine Fanella; and two brothers, John and Michael.
Joseph was a graduate of Altoona High School. He had been the owner of Old Dutch Grill for 33 years and had also worked for the Pennsylvania Shoe Factory and Vincent Horwitz Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church as well as the Bavarian Aid Society, Unter Uns and Brush Mountain Sportsmen's Association.
Joseph enjoyed woodworking, Miami Dolphins football and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
