The seeds for the District 3 Class AA Duals drew a lot of criticism, as we reported last week regarding top-seeded Boiling Springs probably meeting fourth-seeded Bermudian Springs in the semifinals, and sure enough, the critics appear to have been right.
Boiling Springs, ranked second by Off The Mat, and 15th-ranked Bermudian Springs did meet in the semis, and they actually tied, 30-30, but Boiling Springs won the meet on the second tiebreaker criteria, which is most bouts won. The Bubblers won eight of the 14 bouts.
It's the second time in as many years that the outcome of the match was decided by criteria. Last year, in the finals of the District 3 Duals, the Bubblers won by criteria D over Bermudian Springs.
The Bubblers had no such drama in the championship match, beating Hamburg, 47-15.
Nazareth sneaks by Parkland
The District 3 semifinal wasn't the only crucial match decided by criteria. One other notworthy one was the District 11 Class AAA championship, won by Nazareth over Parkland because of most bouts won. Officially, the score was 29-28.
Burrell edges South Fayette
Burrell and South Fayette finished third and fourth, respectively, at the Thomas Subaru Tournament, so, as expected, their match in the District 7 Class AA Duals finals was close. Burrell escaped with a 34-28 win. Both teams advanced to the PIAA Duals.
