Edythe M. Graves, 91, Tyrone, died Friday at Epworth Manor.
She was born in Gainesville, Fla., daughter of Lawrence and Adele (Barnes) Caldwell. She married Joseph N. Graves on Feb. 19, 1940, in Mount Union, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1994.
Surviving are two sons: Joseph (Mary) of Detroit, Mich., and Richard "Sonny" (Elizabeth) of Clearfield; three grandchildren: Tracie, Shawn and Jenifer; six great-grandchildren: Rodney Jr., Dominique, Camryn, Nyla, Graeson and Gabrielle; a great-great-grandchild, Malachi; three siblings: Margaret (Earl) Pattillo of Altoona, Dorothy Price of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and Lawrence (Margaret) Caldwell of Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Mary Edna Lykens.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: James, Charles and Robert.
Edythe attended Tyrone High School and had been employed as a mender at Warnaco, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where she had served on the administrative council and was a member of the Semper Fidelis Sunday school class and the fellowship class. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Memorial Chapter 58, Mount Union, having been very active for more than 50 years. She served as secretary of Joanna Chapter for more than 15 years and was district deputy and past grand matron, grand electra and grand central trustee for 14 years. She was a member of the NAACP and had served as treasurer of the Tyrone Chapter 917 of AARP. She was a very active volunteer at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library.
Edythe was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tyrone Area High School football team.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m.
Friends will also be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Rev. Aden Wertz officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
