Melvin B. "Butch" Boyer Jr., 68, Claysburg, passed away Sunday at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Melvin B. Sr. and Nellie (Weyandt) Boyer. He married Donna Lasley on April 4, 1986, in Roaring Spring.
Surviving are his wife; two children: Courtney Mock and companion, Michael Dermer, and Michael and fiancee, Amy Dibert, all of Claysburg; six grandchildren: Lucas, Logan, Trentin, Owen, Paige and Blaine; two sisters: Judy Eccleston and husband, Rich, of East Freedom and Penny Hoenstine and husband, Michael, of Imler; a brother, Larry and wife, Robin, of Claysburg; his mother-in-law, Joan Lasley, and brother-in-law, David Lasley, both of Glen Burnie, Md.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Jack Russell terrier, Toby.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Dibert; his father-in-law, Donald Lasley; and special family friend, Betty Lewis.
Butch was a 1964 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was stationed in Germany. He retired as a self-employed auto mechanic and after retirement drove a school bus for A&M Transport. He was a member of Cove Relay For Life and enjoyed hunting and league bowling.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Greenfield United Church of Christ, Pastor Robert Penner officiating. Interment will be at Greenfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Cove Relay For Life.
