Merle K. Sims, 85, Grazierville, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born in Tyrone, son of Charles and Elizabeth Sims. He married Virginia B. Fahr on Feb. 8, 1963, at Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, and she died March 29, 2012.
Surviving are two sons: William Kenneth Sims and wife, Sue, of Altoona and John Alan Hale of Pleasant Gap; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Ford of Bald Eagle.
Merle was a WWII veteran, serving as a cook with the 7234 Food Service Squadron in Germany. He retired in 1990 from Cerro Copper and Brass Co., Bellefonte, as a machine operator after 17 years of service and was previously employed at Juniata Packing and Bayer Brothers.
Merle was a member of Grazierville United Methodist Church, Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone, and Tyrone VFW. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed cooking.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, the Rev. Jennifer Kauffman officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park. The Tyrone Honor Guard will provide veteran honors at the funeral service.
