Robert Wayne Zettle, 72, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Miles E. and M. Kathleen (Hoover) Zettle. He married Sandra R. Thompson on June 5, 1971.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years; a daughter, Kathleen M. Hoover of Altoona; a grandson, Robert C. Hoover; a sister, Dorothy Singer of Altoona; a brother, Donald of East Detroit, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Joanne Zettle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard.
Robert was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the Altoona Highway Department after 22 years of service. He was a member of First Grace Brethren Church, Altoona, and the Juniata Gap Volunteer Fire Company.
Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time with his daughter and grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, by Pastor Amy Raser. Entombment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
