BEDFORD - Bedford County Commissioner Steve Howsare announced his impending resignation Tuesday as he prepares to take the helm of the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission, a regional nonprofit that directs federal and state funds toward business loans and assistance.
Howsare, a 10-year veteran of the board, is set to become executive director for the commission Feb. 3 - the day outgoing director Ed Silvetti plans to step down.
Silvetti said Howsare was the right choice to head the Altoona-based commission, which covers Blair, Huntingdon, Cambria, Somerset, Bedford and Fulton counties.
Bedford County President Judge Thomas S. Ling is responsible for choosing Howsare's replacement. Ling said he will begin the process as soon as he receives official word of Howsare's departure.
