John S. Harr, 87, Imler, passed away Monday at home.
He was born in Claysburg, son of the late Lloyd H. and Minnie (Claar) Harr. He married Aldene "Sis" Smith on May 6, 1950, in Chambersburg, and she passed away Jan. 21, 2012.
Surviving are four children: twins Dorene J. Corle and husband, Robert, of Imler and Douglas J. and wife, Sandy, of East Freedom and sons Chris J. and Jonathan B., both of Imler; nine grandchildren: Shaun, Mandi, Kip, Sara, Whitney, Christian, Brogan, Jenna and Kobe; and 10 great-grandchildren: Kalib, Corryne, Dalton, Kyler, Taniyah, Stella, Vada, Presley, Laney and Miles.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin C.; and 10 brothers and sisters.
John served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He retired from Conemaugh Coal and previously had worked as a mechanic, painter and maintenance man. After retiring, he operated a veal farm and helped his son at his auto body shop. He enjoyed working on cars and was involved in auto racing since the early 1960s.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Claysburg Bible Church, 11751 William Penn Road, Imler, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, Pastor Keith Showalter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Claysburg Bible Church.
